The World Health Organization is set to officially announce their worldwide study that links prolonged cell phone use to an increase in brain tumors.
In their words, the study shows “a significantly increased risk” for developing brain tumors “related to the use of mobile phones for a period of ten years or more.”
The study is the first of its kind from the international health body and is sending shockwaves throughout the mobile phone industry and the over four billion cell phone users worldwide.
The comprehensive study was a collaboration between researchers from 13 different countries. The work focused on reviewing past studies on mobile phone radiation risks, as well as interviewing healthy cell phone users and brain tumor patients about their cell phone habits.
The results will be officially published by the World Health Organization by the end of the year.
The announcement of this study comes amidst a flurry of related legislation and activity from all over the world. United States Senator Arlen Specter recently called official Congressional hearings to investiage the potential risks of long-term cell phone use. The French government recently outlawed all advertising of mobile phone products to children under 13 years of age.
The WHO's announcement was reported on by a number of major news outlets in the United States as well as abroad. The rise in media attention has revived interest in the long-debated issue on blogs and technology-related news sites.
Several other recent studies, some related to the WHO international study, have also drawn similar conclusions regarding the risk of cell phone radiation levels.

Studies showing the dangers of cell phone radiation to human health date back over twenty years. Although studies have been published to the contrary, many cell phone users believe that the evidence for concern speak for itself. With over four billion cell phone users around the world and growing, the need for consumer awareness is greater than ever.
